Kitchen cleaning

With the kitchen being the one room in the house where food is prepared, it is vital the it is kept clean and hygienic at all times. Because it is a room that is constantly in use, the easiest way to keep it clean is to clean as you go along and have a loose kitchen cleaning schedule for keeping everything under control. It is not only important to stay on top of the daily kitchen jobs, but larger jobs that need doing infrequently should still be prioritised at various intervals.

Daily Kitchen Cleaning Tasks

Everyday kitchen jobs to keep your kitchen clean and tidy and under control on a day to day basis include; Washing and putting away all cups, dishes, pots, etc, wiping down the counter tops and the hob after cooking, make sure the sink is clean and the draining board dried, empty the rubbish from the kitchen bin into the large outdoor bin.

Weekly Kitchen Cleaning Tasks

Weekly is a good time to check on certain kitchen maintenance jobs, such as cleaning the microwave, the dishwasher and the fridge. Be sure to take note of any out of date food you are throwing away as this should be an indication to change your shopping or cooking habits. Once a week is often adequate time for cleaning the floors, however if you have pets of children it may need cleaned more than once a week. It is also a good idea to put soda crystals down the plug hole to ensure free flow and keep the plumbing ticking over smoothly.

Monthly Kitchen Cleaning Tasks

Monthly cleaning jobs in the kitchen, or less often, are things like cleaning the oven, descaling the washing machine and dishwasher, and perhaps cleaning out the waste bin with bleach. Less frequent cleaning jobs also include cleaning kitchen cupboards, inside and out, and cleaning any shelves or other storage within the room.

While cleaning the kitchen, it is a good idea to note any areas of the room that are not working as well as they could be, such as things hanging on the back of the door, or any other areas where clutter has began to form. Try to ensure that everything has a place and that clutter does not form in the kitchen, and this in turn will make it much easier to keep clean.
