If you’re like us, you’ll want your home to be clean and fresh, your windows sparking and your carpets spotless. Business owners will want tip-top cleanliness too and those of us who own rented properties will want a reliable and effective deep clean at the end of every contract – one thing’s for sure, you’ll want to ensure every space is safe for everyone, whether that’s your family and pets, employees or tenants.
What do you think of when you hear the words ‘eco-friendly cleaning’? It’s a common assumption that cleaning products that profess to be eco-friendly are, in some way, somehow, not quite as effective. This is a myth! You really don’t need strong chemicals to ensure you get a thorough clean; eco-friendly products are just as effective with natural harmless ingredients. What’s more, unlike conventional cleaners, green cleaners aren’t corrosive, so you needn’t worry about spoiling your brand new bath suite with nasty chemicals (which could deplete shine and specially-treated surfaces) or contributing to nasty toxins entering water systems.
When you pull the flush after loading your loo with thick bleach or you rinse out the contents of the kitchen sink after you’ve slathered it in anti-grime lotions and potions, it will eventually end up in a sewer or septic tank system or worse still, the sea, soil and waterways. Unfortunately this contamination decreases water quality which will eventually affect fish and other wildlife. For example, a class of chemicals known as Alkylphenol Ethoxylates (APEs) have been found to harm the reproduction and survival of salmon, amongst other fish, due to mimicking the hormone estrogen – nasty stuff!
There are lots of other harmful chemicals hiding in your cleaning products too, such as sodium Hypochlorite, Trisodium Nitrilotriacetate, Xylene, Phosphates, 2-butoxyethanol, Silica and Methylene Chloride and they all contribute to the poisoning of our environment. Phosphates, for example, are a water-softening mineral additive which acts as a fertilizer when introduced into the waterways and it results in an overgrowth of algae which eventually depletes the water’s oxygen supply and thus harms and kills fish and other aquatic life.
Unfortunately it doesn’t end here. Residue from these products gets left behind on work surfaces, in baths and sinks and on your taps, floors and carpets. From here, you are in contact with these chemicals on a daily basis and of course that can’t be good. These products have the potential to cause respiratory irritation, chemical burns, watery eyes, irritate asthma, and in severe cases with prolonged exposure, can cause cancer.
But it needn’t be doom and gloom in your household; there is a simple and easy solution and that is to eradicate such toxins from your home and business altogether and switch to eco-friendly cleaning products – an easy and effective solution that you can start straight away. Here at Flower Maid, we pride ourselves on staying loyal to our environment by exclusively using eco-friendly cleaning products. From our extensive experience, we know that chemicals are not necessary to achieve top results in the cleanliness department; eco-friendly cleaning products are just as effective and they are 100% safe and kind to you and the environment – something we’re sure Mother Nature will thank us for!
