Keeping a More Organised Home

Keeping a More Organised Home

It is on many people’s ‘to do’ list to keep a more organised home in 2016. We often start off with good intentions, but then as a busy life gets in the way, our efforts fall by the wayside. Here are a few tips to help you keep that New year’s Resolution of keeping a more organised home in 2016.

1 – Have a planner or calendar on the wall, and if you have a family then this is even more important. Get into the habit of writing down all appointments, check-ups and commitments so that everyone in the household can see at a glance what is going on. It is also a good idea to note when appointments have to be scheduled and birthday cards and gifts bought.

2 – Have a file and keep all paperwork organised in the same place. Shred out of date documents so that they do not cause clutter. By having everything in one place like this you will be able to put your hands on the right documents in just a few minutes, meaning no time will be wasted.

3 – Get into the habit of dealing with incoming post and junk mail as it comes in. You could have a letter wrack and also a recycling bin at the front door for example, open all mail as it comes in, binning the envelopes and junk there and then.

4 – Have a daily routine of putting things away at night, emptying rubbish bins, and wiping around the kitchen sink and counter tops. Stick to a daily cleaning routine. Have a monthly checklist of things to do around the home such as cleaning windows, gardening jobs, and any odd jobs.

5 – Set up a home ‘station’ where all phones, chargers, paperwork, keys, address book and so on is kept. This will enable the whole family to find exactly what they are looking for.

These simple steps will go a long way to helping you to be more organised in the home, which will make for a more relaxed and productive 2016.
